Microsoft Office’s visual update was originally announced earlier this year.

American tech conglomerate Microsoft has begun releasing a new Office UI for its customers this week. The visual update was originally announced earlier this year and was tested over the summer.

According to The Verge, it is now available to Office 365 and Office 2021 customers. This new Office UI is designed to adapt to the visual changes in Windows 11 and gives the Office Ribbon Bar a more rounded look with some subtle tweaks to buttons across Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

It’s very easy to refresh, and Office will now match the Dark or Light theme you have set inside Windows. The new look can be turned on or off using the upcoming megaphone icon in the top right corner of Word, Excel, PowerPoint or OneNote.

Microsoft says it should now be available to all Windows 11 users and that Visual Update will be enabled automatically for 50% of current channel subscribers.

Most design changes are subtle, but Microsoft has made even more dramatic changes to its Office UI, including further modifying the command bar instead of the traditional ribbon interface.

According to The Verge, these changes are expected to first appear in the web and mobile versions of Office, and Microsoft said last year that it could take a year or two for its major Office UI changes to become available.
